![]() The steel-frame “Chicago Skeleton” building technique kicked off the skyscraper age, and subsequent innovations have taken us from the Home Insurance Building in 1885 to the tallest Chicago observation deck of all, Willis Tower. How High is the Willis Tower Observation Deck? Personally I will never visit that attraction again, but if you really want to go,DO NOT BUY TICKETS IN ADVANCE.Contact Us Get Skydeck Tickets Things to Do in Chicago I believe in good customer service and it doesn't sit well with me that this is their policy on advance tickets when their main customers are out of town tourists. They just respond with the same jargon that all sales are final. ![]() The person I spoke with on the phone suggested I email the company. I tried to pawn these off to people in the area, but was unsuccessful. I tried to get a refund and they said ticket sales were final and suggested I try and find someone to give the tickets to, since I was leaving later that day. Unfortunately, due to this being a work trip, I was unable to attend. We gambled and moved our scheduled time to the next day. To reiterate, the views of the city are amazing and worthwhile, the tilt? While not bad, felt rushed.ĭO NOT BUY YOUR TICKETS IN ADVANCE!!! We purchased out tickets online and when we arrived at the venue, the person in the front desk showed us a picture of what our view would look like (it was cloudy that day) and the picture showed maybe 20% visibility with mostly clouds in the picture. ![]() The people operating this felt uninterested and it felt like we were just another group of annoying tourists to usher out ASAP. It's only $8 to tilt so it's not exactly daylight robbery but my main gripe was that from paying to walking out of the tilt, I felt rushed. I realise as I'm writing this how negative I'm making it sound and you may want to take it with a grain of salt because my wife loved it and was genuinely happy/thrilled with it. First it will tilt a little bit, then it will tilt a little bit more and lastly it will tilt even more. You will be asked to put your bags to the side, put you feet to the window and hold onto handles to either side of your portion of the window. Anyway, enough to of the observation deck, you wanted to know about the tilt didn't you?ĭisappointing is probably the most accurate description I could give it. This really gives you a different perspective on things and it's also where we noticed a bicycle path that we later took advantage of. ![]() The views from here are fantastic, some of the best I've had of any city I have visited to date. Turns out that it is a portion of the side of the building that tilts over the side giving you a birds eye view of the city.ġst things 1st, you have to pay $20 to get to the top of the building and walk around the 360 degree observation deck. My wife and I were in Chicago for a week and, as you do, we're looking for things to do that we couldn't get at home. Also there did not seem to be a hard time limit on the Ledge.we did not feel rushed and walked away feeling like we had a great experience and got our money worth. I would direct everyone to "The Ledge" in Willis tower, we went there the next day, it cost a little bit more but the staff was very friendly, the views were just as good, and I got to participate in "the ledge" and take pictures of my own of my family, with no objections from staff. I stepped off early(which was fine to do) and tried to take a pic of my family with my phone and was chastised in unison by the 3 staff members "NO PICTURES".10 seconds later when the "ride" was over they offered to sell me the one they took for 25$.what a joke( side note, my family of 5 spent $108.00 for the observation deck plus $45.00 for the tilt, I figured I could take my own picture since I had already spent $153.00). Its over in about 30 seconds start to finish. As far as the TILT, well, I would not waste my money there again. I'll say something positive first, the views are great at the observation deck.
